Joint Research Laboratory of Construction & Physicochemical Research of Oxide Magnetic Materials by Astrakhan State University & Institute of Metallurgy, Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Karpasyuk, Vladimir Kornilyevich

D.Sc. in Physics & Mathematics, Full Professor – Head of Laboratory

The Joint Research Laboratory of Construction & Physicochemical Research of Oxide Magnetic Materials is a structural unit of Astrakhan State University in general and the Center for Functional Magnetic Materials in particular.

The Laboratory was established in 2012 jointly with the Institute of Metallurgy, Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Yekaterinburg, Russia). It was set up thanks to the research base that the scientific school of Academician G. Chufarov created in Astrakhan. Research and development of new oxide magnetic materials was carried out in close cooperation with schools of Academician Yu. Tretyakov (Lomonosov Moscow State University), Professor V. Glotov, a Laureate of the Soviet Union State Prize, and Professor M. Letyuk, Honored Scientist of Russia and a Laureate of the Russian State Prize.

Main Tasks & Functions of the Laboratory

Our main tasks are as follows:

– grounding the competition concepts, development of compositions, fundamentals of design and viable technological processes of synthesis of new classes of functional magnetic materials;

– research of processes of interaction between structural units and inhomogeneities of the hierarchical structure of magnetic materials;

– determination of the nature of electronic ionic disordering and defectiveness of oxide magnetic materials, mechanisms of charge compensation;

– provision of the right conditions to train qualified specialists in the appropriate specializations.

To tackle the set tasks, the Laboratory performs the following functions:

– conducting fundamental and applied research;

– determination of physical and chemical characteristics, magnetic and electric parameters of materials;

– development of new methods to construct, model, and forecast the properties of functional magnetic materials and research techniques;

– arrangement of hands-on research training;

– analysis of the current state and development tendencies of the appropriate areas of science and technology; preparation of analytical reviews, monographs, articles, and reports.

Our postgraduate students cover practical training programs at the Institute of Metallurgy UrD RAS on a regular basis. Academician V. Balakirev, Correspondent Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, gave lectures to our students. Professor A. Schepetkin, Head of Laboratory of the Institute of Metallurgy UrD RAS, consulted our staff and students.
