First Guzhvin Readings Conference Opens at Astrakhan State University

The work of the platform dedicated to the contribution of the first Astrakhan governor to the regional development is taking place today on the sidelines of international scientific forum “Caspian Region 2021: Sustainable Development Trajectories”.

“Anatoly Guzhvin: Era and Personality” — this is how the organizers formulated the topic of the First Guzhvin Readings Conference. Those who personally knew Anatoly Guzhvin, his friends, those who worked in the same team or under his supervision, and very young people, students for whom this name is part of the history of Russia, gathered at Astrakhan State University to recall this outstanding manager, honest and conscientious person.

The idea of the conference belongs to Governor of Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin, who, opening the meeting, emphasized his deep respect for his predecessor and the preservation of continuity in the management of the region.

Listing Guzhvin’s merits in developing the potential of Astrakhan Region, the speakers mentioned such areas as creating conditions for maintaining good neighborly relations in the interethnic region, developing the North-South Transport Corridor and the associated construction of the port of Olya, assigning an international status to the Astrakhan Airport, efforts to abolish the construction of the Volga-Chogray canal and others. The meeting participants are convinced that much of what the first governor began to do is being successfully implemented now.

The conference continued with round table “Caspian Cooperation: Astrakhan Model of Sustainable Development of Russia” and workshop “Information Resources and Regional Informatization: How It All Began”. The latter was illustrated with an exhibition in the hall, organized by the ASU Scientific Library.
