Ex-Prospective Students Advise Next-Generation Prospective Students, or Recommendations of Experienced People

Being inspired with the theme of this survey, our newly-admitted students, who used go to high school just a few months ago and who are now fully aware of the university life, have written large essays with their wishes and warnings for their younger counterparts who will join the student community in a year. These are just brief extracts…

“I’d wish a future student to find a specialty they like most, to think at the USE carefully, not to lose optimism, and to choose their own way into the adult student life (ha-ha)! I could write all that as a poem… What why as a poem? Romanticism is no more…”

“To choose such a specialty to feel not a sense of duty every morning, but a sense of enthusiasm and ease, to be active and full of initiative”

“I’d share my personal experience: no tutors are necessary to pass a Unified State Exam”

“Dwell on opinions of those people who really achieved something”

“I’d wish all the creative folks good luck and exceptional inspiration”

“After you enter the University, you’d better seek a job at once, and you’ll save enough money to buy a car by your 3rd year. Then all the first-year-boys (or girls) will be yours. And think carefully which disciplines you’d shirk”

“That sound banal, but you should take a profession orientation test. That really helps!”

“I’d advise to seek a job when you’re still at high school. That’ll help you understand which area is good for you”

“At least four years are waiting for you. They’ll make you cry and laugh, laugh and cry. Expect a happier life, pain and distress will fade away, believe me”

“Join Astrakhan State University. You’ll have no regrets!”

“I’d like to wish high school students to treat all the disciplines in earnest. If your knowledge at high school is good, then you’ll have no problems at the University!”

“Decide which disciplines to take at the USE, and begin to prepare for your exams as early as possible. Don’t put that off!”

“Learn everything about grants and contests”

“Any future student should study special literature in advance to have broader professional knowledge”

“Do well at high school, ‘cause the USE is getting harder and harder every single year”

“First of all, try to take the USE by preparing yourself. Educate yourself, and don’t treat the University as a freeload. Of course, nobody will supervise you so much as at high school, but you’ll achieve nothing without self-discipline”

“Learn English. It’ll be useful for you”

“Don’t worry and be more self-confident. Treat your studies in earnest. Read books and broaden your knowledge about the world”

“My dear high school students, before you enter a university, try to think all that over. Don’t listen to other people’s advice; don’t choose a university just because, for example, your friend studies there”

“Forget all you learnt at high school. A university is a severe place. Enjoy your free time, while you still have it, and live a full life!”

Students of the following Departments have taken part in the survey: Mathematics & Information Technologies; Business & Economy; Psychology; Pedagogics, Social Work, & Physical Training; Architecture & Design; Chemical; Biological.
