Astrakhan State University Keeps Celebrating Maslenitsa

Traditionally, Maslenitsa Wednesday is called Lakomka (eng. ‘sweet-tooth’). On this day, people in Ancient Russia used to bake pancakes and make visits. So, today hilarious festivities with games, songs and dances were organized for students and guests of the university.

Rector Konstantin Markelov officially opened the celebration. In his welcoming speech, he recalled that the cheerful Maslenitsa holiday has “relatives” all over the world. The rector congratulated those who attended the event on the occasion and wished them cheerful mind, and together with the students pronounced the spell “Winter, go away!”

The fun continued with songs, Russian folk dances, round dances and food, while members of the ASU Training Centre of Restaurant Service & Hospitality organized a master class on baking unusual colorful pancakes.
