ASU Students Honour the Memory of the Turkmen Poet

Magtymguly Pyragy did a lot to change his native poetic language, bringing it closer to the speech of the people. His name is as significant for the Turkmens as the name of Alexander Pushkin for the Russians. This year marks the 297th anniversary of his birth.

The floral tribute took place near the monument to Magtymguly Pyragy, which is located in the park near the main building of Astrakhan State University. The campaign was organized within the framework of the Year of Peace and Trust, announced by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. It was initiated by the Consulate of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan, Turkmen national and cultural associations and communities, as well as the centre of the Turkmen language and culture and student activists of Astrakhan State University.

The event was attended by Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan Guych Garayev, Vice-Consul of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan Nurymurat Rozydzhumaev, Acting Head of the International Relations Agency of Astrakhan region Aleksey Aydin, Deputy Head of the Administration of the Privolzhsky District Natalya Malysheva, Chairman of the Board of the Astrakhan regional public organization for the preservation and development of Turkmen culture “Turkmenistan” Fauzia Kadyrova; Vice-Rector for Digitalization, Innovation and Priority Projects of Astrakhan State University Aleksey Titov, other officials and representatives of the Turkmen community and ASU students from Turkmenistan.

Wearing national costumes, students of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism recited Magtymguly Pyragy’s poem “The Future of Turkmenistan” in Russian and Turkmen. At the end of the ceremony, the guests laid floral tributes on the monument to the poet.
