Issues of Caspian Food Security Are Discussed at Astrakhan State University
International conference “Caspian Region: Food Security and Improving Quality of Life of the Population” has been held at ASU within the framework of the 2021 Global Food Forum.
Rector of Astrakhan State University Konstantin Markelov addressed the online and offline participants of the event. According to the ASU rector, achieving sustainable development of the production of raw materials and food is necessary for sufficient provision of the population with food.
The speakers agreed that this is possible if innovative work is carried out in the field of genetics and breeding, as well as the digital transformation of agricultural industries, and now the task of organizing Russia’s food independence has top priority.
Participants of the event paid special attention to the food issues in rural areas. The discussion platform participants also considered topical issues of reducing the risk of foodborne infections, innovations in plant growing in the Caspian region and the development of herbal food additives with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
