ASU Scientists’ Development Will Help Farmers Monitor Condition of Agricultural Facilities

Identification of problem areas in the fields using drones is one of the areas of work of the Artificial Intelligence Project Office of Astrakhan State University.

Using an unmanned aerial vehicle and artificial intelligence methods, the ASU-developed information system takes pictures from agricultural fields, uses them as a source of information, and creates a field map from the available pictures. When analyzing the data obtained, the AI learns to take into account even such factors as, for example, the agricultural crop with which a particular area is sown.

“The project on the use of agrodrones will help automate the work of farmers and provide agricultural workers with support in making decisions. Work in this direction is especially relevant in Astrakhan Region, where agriculture and crop production are well developed,“ said ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov.

The data transmitted to the farmers can be used, among other things, in a format readable by robotic agricultural machinery, if such is provided. Monitoring is carried out in real time, and all information is stored in the database and can be shown to experts at any time.
