Young Archaeologists from all over Russia Gather at ASU

These days, Astrakhan State University is hosting one of the most prestigious scientific events among young students of Russia — the 54th Ural-Volga Archaeological Student Conference.

The scientific meeting has brought together representatives of universities of Astrakhan, Veliky Novgorod, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Izhevsk, Irkutsk, Kirov, Kazan, Kurgan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Orenburg, Perm, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Tyumen, Ufa, Cheboksary, and Chelyabinsk, as well as young scientists from Karaganda and Aktobe (Republic of Kazakhstan).

At the plenary session, ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov welcomed the audience, highlighting the importance of the event and stressing that archeology students of the Ural-Volga region address many issues of Russian and world history with their research, using modern digital technologies and Big Data, among other things.

One of the important projects timed to the 90th anniversary of Astrakhan State University will be a series of papers by ASU scientists titled “Chronicles of Astrakhan Region” which will be published under support of the regional government.

The 54th Ural-Volga Archaeological Student Conference is being held for three days. Participating in the sections, young scientists will discuss issues of archeology of the Stone Age, the Paleometal Period and the Early Iron Age. In addition, the participants’ studies focus on the archeology of the Middle Ages, the archaeological and ethnographic studies of the late Middle Ages and the New Age, as well as the history of archaeological research in the Volga-Ural region.
