ASU Students Are Told about the Observance of Human Rights in Police Activities
A roundtable for students of Astrakhan State University was held by representatives of the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights and the regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Elena Oleinikova, Head of the Human Rights Protection Department, explained why this unit is necessary and told the students about the cases she deals with. According to her, citizens send applications on a variety of issues — housing, social or international law. In addition, a whole block of appeals is related to the actions of police officers, for example, someone does not agree with the criminal prosecution, others complain about the state of the premises for detainees or red tape during the initiation of a criminal case.
In his turn, Aleksey Sirotin, the prosecutor of the Department for Supervision of Compliance with Laws, Rights and Freedoms of Citizens of the Department for Supervision of Compliance with Federal Legislation of the Prosecutor’s Office of Astrakhan Region, described the principles of the activity of this structure, and also explained what an act of prosecutorial response is.
The students actively asked questions and gave examples of cases of right violation that happened to them. Representatives of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights and the Prosecutor’s Office gave detailed answers to all the questions.
