New Breakthrough of Our Historians

Astrakhan State University has presented a unique historiographic project – the book “Astrakhan during Great War of 1914-1918”.

The presentation of this book has been held in the Assembly Hall of ASU. The book has become a result of several years of hard and minute work that faculty of our Historical Department has done. This edition has been published thanks to support of the Governor of Astrakhan Region, and it has become a real breakthrough for historiography of our Region.

The book reflects the main events of one of the greatest wars in the history of mankind, which also concerned people of Astrakhan. It narrates how people of our Region helped the front and refugees, about their tolerant attitude towards POWs, about large-scale resource mobilization activities that legal authorities performed to gain a victory over the enemy as soon as possible. Having been published in honor of the 100th anniversary of the War, this information resource has been of profound interest among the regional public.

The large-scale historical work has been created by Professor Timofeeva, Professor Oleynikov, Professor Lebedev, Dr. Baygushkin, and Ms. Fedina. A whole number of experts, specialists in regional history, photographers, and staff of state archives have been involved in its composition.

This edition is intended for a wide range of people of various ages, who are interested in the history of their home land. Most copies have been sent to libraries, but the book can also be bought.
