International Roundtable Concerning Russian-Kazakhstani Relations

On June 23, 2016, the international roundtable “Russians in Kazakhstan & Kazakhs in Russia” took place at Astrakhan State University. It was arranged by ASU’s Center of Eurasian Political Research and by the Astrakhan Branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

How do Kazakh people live in Russia? What issues do Russian people in Kazakhstan face? Will the present-day international harmony in both countries remain as it is? Experts from Astrakhan, Orenburg, and Atyrau searched for answers to these questions.

The experts discussed topical aspects of adaptation of Russians in Kazakhstan and Kazakhs in Russia, as well as the legislative policy of Kazakhstani authorities towards the Russian language, participation of ethnic Kazakhs living in Russia and ethnic Russians living in Kazakhstan in migration processes, and the threat of extremist ideas among young Kazakhs and Russians in both states. “Russia and Kazakhstan are reliable partners; Russians and Kazakhs are peoples who interacted for centuries and who live in peace and in harmony” – these are the words that summarized the roundtable talk.
