President of Azerbaijan Becomes Honorary Professor of ASU

On October 24, 2016, the Academic Council of Astrakhan State University decided to confer the title of Honorary Professor of ASU on Mr. Ilham Heydar oghlu Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Cooperation in the field of education is of special importance for Azerbaijan and Astrakhan Region. Astrakhan’s educational establishments provide professional training in various spheres for numerous citizens of the neighboring country. The number of Azerbaijani students at Astrakhan’s higher educational institutions is increasing every year.

Universities of Astrakhan and Azerbaijan cooperate actively; a number of agreements in the field of education have been signed.

One of the most remarkable joint educational projects was launch of joint educational programs to train conference interpreters of international level at the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting & Translation of Astrakhan State University; those programs were launched in close cooperation with the Azerbaijan University of Languages (Baku, Azerbaijan). The Azerbaijani language is taught at ASU on a regular basis.

Given actively developing cooperation between Astrakhan Region and Azerbaijan in the educational sphere, a large contribution to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia (including Astrakhan Region), members of the Academic Council of ASU unanimously decided to confer the title of Honorary Professor of Astrakhan State University on Mr. Ilham Heydar oghlu Aliyev.
