Issues of Regional Geography Discussed at ASU
The Regional Secondary School Applied Research Conference “Modern Issues of Regional Geography & Their Solutions” has recently taken place at the Department of Geography & Geology of Astrakhan State University.
The event agenda included the Autumn Regional Applied Research Seminar of the Astrakhan Regional School Geographical Society and the Roundtable for School Teachers “Education in Geography: New Technologies for System of Higher & Secondary School Education”.
Over 180 students of Astrakhan’s secondary schools took part in the Conference, as well as their parents and teachers. The event participants discussed the main relevant issues of education in Geography and shared their experience of research activities in this sphere.
Faculty of the Department of Geology & Geography of ASU gave their reports concerning their recent expeditions to explore caves in Kazakhstan (Dr. Ilya Golovachyov), the specific features of modern cartographic explorations (Dr. Ruslan Kondrashin), and international cooperation (Mr. Mikhail Valov).
In early November 2016, the photo exhibition “Earth as Perceived by Geographer” and the painting exposition “Sketches of Astrakhan Region” were arranged in the Assembly Hall of the Innovative Institute of Natural Sciences of ASU as a result of the contests “Landscape Photo” and “Artistic Image”, which were organized by the Astrakhan Regional School Geographical Society. The participants and the winners of the contests, as well as their teachers, were awarded with certificates.
Dr. Marina Bezuglova, who chairs the Astrakhan Regional School Geographical Society, announced new creative and research contests for schoolchildren; she also told them about the web pages of the Society on the web site of Astrakhan State University and in social networks. She also invited everyone to participate in the Spring Seminar to take place on March 24, 2017.
