Our Professor Covers British Master Program

From September 2016 to September 2017, Dr. Alexander Koshkarov, Director of the Center of Financial Literacy of Astrakhan State University, studies a master program at the University of Sheffield in Great Britain.

Dr. Koshkarov chose Data Science, which is closely related to what he already knows and what he is planning to do in the future. “This is a really demanded specialty nowadays”, he says. “Large volumes of data are generated in the ICT era; one should be able to collect and analyze them to find useful patterns. Many experts say data is a new “oil”; you can extract precious information from it to promote your business. This strategic asset is a serious comparative advantage for any company; large companies are actively introducing technologies to analyze a huge amount of data”.

Since the duration of studies is just one year, the educational process is highly intensive. According to Dr. Koshkarov, a considerable part of the material has to be mastered on your own. Besides his major courses, he takes part in various projects, e.g. in entrepreneurship courses. Some interesting ideas that he gained by studying the British educational system may be implemented at our University as well.

One of the most essential results of Dr. Koshkarov’s studies in the United Kingdom will be launching the Big Data Laboratory at ASU; its staff will conduct various researches of data aimed at business enhancement.

Upon his graduation, Dr. Koshkarov shall obtain an MSc Data Science diploma.

The University of Sheffield is Great Britain’s leading university; it is one of the top 100 world universities and one of the top 10 British universities. According to the Times Higher Education magazine, it is the 2011 University of the Year. Just like the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, it is a member of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group of leading research-led institutions.
