The event was initiated by Dr. Alexander Marmilov, an Associate Professor of the Chair of Geography, Cartography, and GIS Technologies of the Department of Geology & Geography of Astrakhan State University. It was a part of overall activities performed by the Astrakhan Branch of the Youth Club of the Russian Geographical Society. The participants of the voyage studied the specific features of tourism activities and tourism routes available in the area of their research, as well as the local climatic, hydrological, and biogeographical characteristics. The young geographers enjoyed the beautiful nature, as well as their teamwork. Supervised by Dr. Marmilov, they learnt the fundamentals of navigation, the principles of how sails work, and the art of steering a sail yacht.

The total distance covered by the voyage participants made up over 600 nautical miles.
