New Rector of ASU

Today Dr. Konstantin Markelov has become Acting Rector of Astrakhan State University.

Konstantin Alexeevich Markelov graduated from our University in 1984, when he was qualified as a teacher of Mathematics and Physics. Later on, he graduated from the Russian Academy of Public Administration in 1993 and the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration in 1995. He is a PhD in Economics.

Dr. Markelov's professional activities relate to public administration in Astrakhan Region. He used to head the Committee for Youth-Related Affairs of the Administration of Astrakhan Region, chair the Licensing Chamber of the Regional Administration, and be a member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia representing our Region in the upper house of the federal parliament. He also was First Deputy Chairperson of the Committee of Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as a member of the Russian Audit Chamber Cooperation Commission and the Information Policy Commission. From 2005 to 2017, he was Vice Governor of Astrakhan Region and Chairperson of Astrakhan Region's Government. He received a number of state awards.

Dr. Konstantin Markelov succeeded to Prof. Alexander Lunev, who headed our University from 2000 to 2018.
