Issues of Information Society Discussed at ASU
The interuniversity conference “Modern Information Society & Youth: Issues & Challenges” has taken place at Astrakhan State University.
The event was arranged by our Chair of Philosophy headed by Prof. Alexander Glazkov. The range of its participants included 50 students of a number of Astrakhan’s higher educational institutions.
The conference started with a webinar arranged by Prof. Liudmila Baeva, Dean of our Department of Social Communications, jointly with the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences as part of the research project “Existence in the World of Electronic (Online, Cyber, Digital) Culture: New Existential, Axiological, and Ethical Challenges”. The project is backed by the grant provided by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR). On behalf of the Institute of Philosophy RAS, Dr. Nadezhda Kasavina, Senior Researcher Officer, gave a report related to issues of human existential experience gained under conditions of the electronic culture. To continue this theme, Prof. Baeva presented her report “Existential Safety & Risks under Conditions of Electronic Culture”.
The two key reports were followed by students’ reports that concerned issues of eschatological tension and the anti-aging movement, web game addiction, transformation of human values in the modern information space, etc.
At the end of the conference, there was a discussion of the topical issues related to the virtual culture.
