Professor of ASU Delivers Seminar at University of Guilan, Iran

Professor Rafik Usmanov, D.Sc. in Political Science and Head of the Chair of Political Science & International Relations of Astrakhan State University, has visited the University of Guilan located in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The city of Rasht, where the University of Guilan is located, is an official sister city of Astrakhan. Our Universities have been cooperating in education and research for over 15 years.

During his eight-day visit to Iran in late April 2018, Prof. Usmanov gave students lectures in Russia’s foreign policy and federal structure, as well as in geopolitics of the Caspian Sea Region. For students studying Russian there was a special lecture in the history of the Russian state.

According to Prof. Usmanov, his lectures were of real interest for students; they listened to him very attentively and asked him numerous questions.

The Russian guest also met Dr. Ahmad Razi, Chancellor of the University of Guilan. Dr. Razi signed a new agreement concerning cooperation with ASU and expressed his views on further activities to be performed on a joint basis. In particular, the two Universities are going to conduct joint research of geopolitics of the Caspian Region. The two institutions will also go on exchanging professors and students.

Prof. Usmanov also discussed joint projects with faculty of the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Guilan. He had a productive meeting with Dr. Ali Mohammad Bani, Director of the International Office of the University of Guilan. Besides, he met the imam of the Guilan Province; the imam has a doctoral degree in International Law.
