Students of ASU Discuss New Media Trends with Specialists from Moscow

Delegates of Astrakhan State University go on gaining experience at the educational forum “Territory of Meanings”. Not long ago they listened to a lecture by Prof. Elena Vartanova, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism of Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Prof. Dmitry Shelukhin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design of the Higher School of Economics.

The two speakers shared secrets of creating an interesting plot for student media. They emphasized the importance of what kind of information should be delivered in each particular case – educational, controlling, or entertaining.

The speakers emphasized the role of mass media as a tool to impact people, which appeals to particular actions and introduces new ideas. They identified several other features of the present-day media sphere, such as its being based on many platforms, an increased speed of information transmission, and its loss of monopoly owing to an increasing number of blogs.

“Will robots substitute journalists?” – This is was the main question asked at the event. Its participants agreed unanimously: no mechanism can manifest human emotions completely.
