My dear friends, On behalf of the Ministry of Education & Science of the Russian Federation, let me congratulate you on the beginning of the new academic year.

The Day of Knowledge is the main holiday for students and professors of Russian universities, for all those who develop the system of national education. Each academic year is a special one, as it brings new discoveries, new ideas, and new opportunities.

Now our government expects our system of higher education to climb new peaks. It is today’s generation of students and professors that can provide an innovative breakthrough to make Russia a leader in the field of R&D. To meet the set goal, Russian universities ought to undergo serious changes over the next years: teaching techniques, approaches to arrangement of the educational process, diploma projects – all that ought to get closer to practical research and professional activities. Russian universities will be more open for international cooperation, while their graduates will be more competitive at both the international and national labor markets. As a result, Russia is to become a top ten country, whose national universities are in top 500 ranking of the world’s universities.

Each student and professor can contribute to development and modernization of the Russian higher educational system.
