ASU Scientists Demonstrate Their Expertise in Cossack History
On October 11, the Cossack Room of the Astrakhan Military Museum of Fame hosted a round-table discussion «Astrakhan Cossacks in the Early 20th Century» confined to the centenary of the World War I end.
Organized by the regional Youth Agency, the event gathered History students, teachers of comprehensive schools, the Cossack Cadet Corps and Cossack school groups, as well as researchers and university trainers, including ones of Astrakhan State University.
For example, Sergey Lebedev, Candidate of Historical Sciences and an Associate Professor of the Russian History Department, presented a report on the results of the World War I and its aftermath for Russia in general and, in particular, for the Astrakhan governorate.
Petr Kazakov, Candidate of Historical Sciences and an Associate Professor of the Russian History Department, focused on the economic basis of the Astrakhan Cossack host. He marked out fishing, cattle and horse breeding as one of the main sectors of the Cossack economic activities.
In conclusion, the organizers expressed their hope that such meetings would help trainers form methodology for teaching the history of the Astrakhan Cossacks.
