ASU Is Planning to Found Departments of Hindi and Indian Studies

On October 25, Astrakhan State University hosted a meeting of Venkatesh Varma, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation, with Konstantin Markelov, the ASU Acting Rector, as well as with the Vice-Rectors, Deans of the faculties and the university teachers.

The diplomat stressed that the meeting aimed at searching practical steps to extend cooperation between India and Astrakhan. The Embassy is interested in supporting our university in joint projects and is going to develop specific areas of cooperation. These can be the spheres of oil & gas, modern energy sources, robotics, pharmaceutics, training translators and interpreters and a lot more.

According to Konstantin Markelov, for now Astrakhan State University is ready to start implementing two important projects, viz. to found a Hindi department and a department of Indian studies. The Rector also marked out preparation of difference books on history and Russian-Indian cultural relations as one of the areas of future joint work.
