Student Employment is One of the ASU Main Tasks
Astrakhan State University received Jens Sibbersen, an expert of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The Danish guest had a look at the university educational and research facilities and discussed issues of the ASU graduates’ employment with Konstantin Markelov, the ASU Acting Rector.
On October 24-26, the Astrakhan region hosted events of the 2nd phase of the project «Partnerships for Youth Employment in the Commonwealth of Independent States» within the framework of international cooperation between the Russian Federation and the International Labour Organization. The cooperation programme mainly aims at facilitating youth employment, including through international projects financed by business structures. The Astrakhan region is one of the six pilot Russian regions involved into the international project.
Astrakhan State University also does a lot to increase youth employment: it improves its training programmes and opens new ones consulting with major regional enterprises and business structures and taking into consideration their needs.
Jens Sibbersen got interested in the method of employing students of Astrakhan State University. The guest noted that he already knew a lot about the university cooperation with the regional Employment Agency and major enterprises. According to him, the ILO is planning to enhance this partnership and apply the most efficient mechanisms of the labour market.
The parties discussed joint activities on vocational guidance and career planning, training multi-skilled professionals, addressing the problem of unemployment, cooperation with the Employment Agency, conducting studies on the labour market, participation in career fairs and externship programmes for students.
