Konstantin Markelov Sums Up Results of His Participation in the Caspian Economic Forum

Joint activities with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, development of educational programmes for Chinese universities, establishment of the Centre for Turkmen Culture and Language... ASU Acting Rector Konstantin Markelov talks about his agreements with participants of the 2019 Caspian Economic Forum and new projects for the university.

There’ll be more Turkmen students at ASU, and their cultural level will increase.

In the coming days, Astrakhan State University and the Institute of Engineering and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan will start drafting an agreement on cooperation in the sphere of student and teaching staff academic mobility. Besides, the parties are going to develop a joint project on grant research in the sphere of digital technologies and vehicular and railway transport logistics in the Caspian region.

As early as in September, the university representatives will be able to participate in the process of state quota distribution among the applicants that are eager to study in Russia, which will take place in Ashkhabad. Such a decision was made at the meeting with Sergey Malenko, the Head of the CIS Directorate of Rossotrudnichestvo. A teacher from Turkmenistan will lead the Centre for Turkmen Culture and Language that is going to be established at ASU.

An agreement on this issue was reached during the negotiations with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan and the Consulate of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan.

Science at top of mind

At the meeting with Yuri Olenin and Vladimir Ryabinin, representatives of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, the parties discussed joint research with ASU on environmental issues, preservation of flora and fauna, environmental security of the Caspian Sea and further cooperation with the UNESCO Chair of Astrakhan State University.

The Scientific and Educational Centre for Promising Studies of the Caspian Macroregion is expanded with a new member — the Caspian State University of Technology and Engineering named after Sh. Yessenov, located in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The partner is ready to hold regular joint sessions of universities of the Caspian states and to participate in the establishment of a scientific foundation.

An agreement was reached with Vladimir Norov, the Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, on considering the university’s proposals on further cooperation with ASU and preparation of a draft grant on the issues of training academic staff members in Caspian and Eurasian countries, as well as on development of educational programmes together with Chinese universities.

Good news for students

Five most active students of ASU will participate in the international youth forum “New Generation of Eurasia”, which will be held in September in Kyrgyzstan. Konstantin Markelov reached a respective agreement with Svetlana Smirnova, the Deputy Director General of the Eurasian Peoples’ Assembly.

Upon the results of the 2019 Caspian Economic Forum, Astrakhan State University prepared and sent its suggestions and recommendations to the Organizing Committee of the first Caspian Economic Forum and to Sapardurdy Toylyev, the President of the Turkmenistan Academy of Sciences.
