ASU Will Enhance Russia’s Positions in Caspian Region
Today, the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow hosted a meeting of the delegation of Astrakhan State University with Academy President Aleksandr Sergeev and Academy Vice-President Andrey Andrianov.
ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov and Vice-Rector for Research Activities Anna Fedotova discussed some issues of the creation of the Caspian Scientific & Educational Centre at Astrakhan State University with their Moscow colleagues. As the scientists say, the developments, connected with the Caspian region, will be of great strategic importance.
The parties also discussed prospects of organization of the Caspian Scientific Forum in Astrakhan. It should be recalled that Konstantin Markelov and Aleksandr Sergeev had already discussed the issue at the 5th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok and had come to the idea that ASU would join the organizing committee of such an event in 2020 in Baku, Azerbaijan, while in 2021 the university would be able to host the Caspian Scientific Forum within the framework of another large international event — the 2nd Caspian Economic Forum, which will take place in Astrakhan.
Besides, the meeting participants discussed some issues of application of ASU engineering developments in global programmes of the Caspian environmental monitoring. Konstantin Markelov stressed that Astrakhan State University sets itself a goal to join federal programmes, connected with the Caspian research.
RAS President Aleksandr Sergeev expressed his confidence that the project of the Caspian Scientific & Educational Centre, which also involves universities and scientific institutions of Kalmykiya and Dagestan, will allow to strengthen Russia’s positions in the Caspian Sea, in particular the role of the scientific community.
