Costume Ball at Astrakhan State University

On December 28, on the threshold of the New Year’s holidays, the ASU Cultural Centre held a colourful event for students of different faculties where they could turn into anyone they wished — a princess, cavalier or fairy-tale character.

As the organizers say, the idea sprang up spontaneously, because there were no general events for students of different faculties for a long time, except for the university socialization. The main objective of the party was to animate the audience and unite the student brotherhood. It was the second New Year’s costume ball held at Astrakhan State University.

«I’m sure that student life is of course not only about studies, exams and research but also about colorful celebrations. It’s very important to create a warm atmosphere that you’ll remember. May this evening be a pleasant story that you’ll bring to your life,» — said ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov, addressing the audience, who that evening put on a typical pirate costume.

The students’ appearance did not leave indifferent anyone: the mirror hall of ASU was bright with different colours and patterns. One could meet a kikomora, vampires, Snow White and many others on the dancefloor.

The celebration programme included plenty of bright and bold dancing and singing items — presents from the Cultural Centre, —refreshments for the students and, as a result, good mood and music for everyone. The students competed in fast and harmonic decoration of the New Year’s tree, met Father Frost and Snow Maiden, who led them in a round dance, congratulated each other on the upcoming New Year, and took part in a lively dancing flashmob and battle, which smoothly developed into a student disco.
