About 100 delegates from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia are participating in a 2-day discussion of strategic issues of the Caspian region.

The event is organized by Astrakhan State University; the official partners are “Yuzhny” Branch of Gazprombank and LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft.

The event is attended by representatives of diplomatic missions, federal and regional agencies, and scientific community of the Caspian states. The forum participants are to discuss urgent issues of politics, economy and ecology of the Caspian macroregion, as well as top-priority areas for development of scientific and research projects.

Rector of Astrakhan State University Konstantin Markelov addressed the plenary session participants, stressing that the forum is a follow-up of the Commission for Science, Research and Technology, created last year within the framework of the 22nd General Assembly of the Association of State Universities of Caspian Region Countries.

The plenary session saw the signing of an agreement on cooperation between Astrakhan State University and Atyrau University of Oil and Gas.

The main programme of the forum “Caspian Sea Region in the 21st Century: Ways of Sustainable Development” consists of six tracks.
