Last week, scientists of Astrakhan State University took part in another scientific and applied seminar “Adaptability of Grain Crop and Potato Varieties under Conditions of Northern Caspian Region”, organized by the Astrakhan Branch of the Russian Agricultural Centre.
The event involved farmers, scientists, representatives of the Astrakhan Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and heads of the district directorates. Astrakhan State University was represented by Vice Rector for Research Activities Anna Fedotova, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Agribusiness, Technologies & Veterinary Medicine Rinat Dubin, Head of the Department of Agricultural Technologies, Engineering & Agribusiness Rumiya Arslanova, Department Associate Professors Anna Babakova and Zhanna Vilkova, Head of the Educational Experimental Facility “Nachalo” Mikhail Anishko and Head of the Nachalo Unit of Agrarian Technologies Mikhail Puchkov.
The programme included inspection of crops and plantation of grain crop and potato variety samples of the Privolzsky district. At the seminar, the plant breeders presented promising varieties of grain crops and potatoes for cultivation in Astrakhan region.
Demonstration of variety samples of agricultural crops, planted under the regional conditions, provides agricultural producers with an opportunity to analyze potential of the varieties, their adaptation and yielding in different timelines, and the scientific community — to keep working on improvement of varieties’ economic traits, to raise their drought resistance for cultivation under arid conditions of Astrakhan region, and to improve cultivation technologies.
