From Robot Assembly to Genome Engineering: Astrakhan Schoolchildren Compete at ASU

Astrakhan State University is holding the final stage of the regional project competition for pupils of general comprehensive schools, organized by Centre for Modern Competence Development in Children “House of Scientific Collaboration named after V.K. Trediakovsky” within the framework of federal project “Success of Every Child”.

The on-site competition started from robotic engineering. On December 7, the finalists — 5-9th grade schoolchildren from the Astrakhan Technical School, Gymnasium No.3 and the Cossack Cadet Corps named after Ataman I.A. Biruykov — demonstrated their knowledge and skills in building elementary technical systems.

The participants were assessed by the jury consisting of Head of the Centre of Viable Technologies in Electronics & Robotics Ivan Mikhailov, trainer of the House of Scientific Collaboration named after V.K. Trediakovsky Mikhail Gladyshev and Head of the ASU Unit of Pre-University Training Alfiya Valisheva.

Today, the on-site competition is going on — 10-11th grade schoolchildren are to compete for the title of the best robotic engineer.

The 2-week final stage of the competition also involved participants of categories “Industrial Design”, “Aero”, “Genome Engineering” and “Bioinformatics”.

The ceremony of awarding the winners of the competition is being held on December 18 at the House of Scientific Collaboration named after V.K. Trediakovsky.
