ASU MA Students Take Part in Replenishing WIPO Multilingual Database

WIPO Pearl database, which provides an access to scientific and technical terms from patent documentation, is replenished, along with other participants of the project, by the linguistics students of Astrakhan State University.

Students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation have been involved into the international Initiative of the World Intellectual Property Organization on replenishing the terminology database for three years. The work is carried out within the Memorandum of Understanding between Astrakhan State University and WIPO.

Patent documentation includes quite difficult terminology that must be thoroughly checked. It is necessary to select the materials so that patentors and patent experts can use correct and common terms. Staff members and students of the Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation have worked on this challenging task for several years.

Only two Russian universities have taken part in the project this year, one of which is Astrakhan State University.
