Astrakhan State University Opens Mobile App & Computer Game Development Laboratory

The laboratory is meant for training Master’s degree students of the new programme, launched within MAGnUS project (Erasmus+ programme of the European Union). The study room, located in the main academic building of the university, is equipped with sophisticated technologies, purchased for implementation of the project. ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov was told about the potential and work plan of the laboratory.

The study room will be used for training the Master’s degree students of the university who undertake the videogame and app development programme. Classes will be delivered by professors of the Department of Information Security & Digital Technologies of Astrakhan State University and invited practicing experts.

13 PCs (Intel i7, 32Gb RAM and top-of-the-line video cards), as well as Android graphic tablets, necessary for testing designed programs, were purchased (with the grant funding) for the laboratory. Doing the study course, the students also will be able to use augmented reality glasses for introducing augmented reality elements and creating VR apps.

Besides, the project team is going to design an app for the university where the students will see their timetable and homework, set reminders about classes, find study guides in the online library, read the university’s news, etc.

The university won the MAGnUS project grant in 2018. The project implementation started in January 2019: the ASU scientists took part in development of the educational programme, mastered the technology, discussed practical aspects of training new-generation IT specialists with the partners and took part in coordination meetings and the summer online school.
