CITS MA Students Learn Intricacies of Translation with ILO Expert
In late December, students of the ASU Caspian Higher School of Interpreting and Translation met virtually with Russell Duffin, Head of the International Labour Organization's English Translation Service, at another master class. This time, the students had a great opportunity to test their translation skills in working with a real ILO report.
Polina Tulyakova, a first-year CITS MA student, speaks about the master class with the foreign expert:
“We touched upon some problems of workers in the disputed territories between Israel and Palestine. The expert elaborated on all the historical references in order to test and deepen our background knowledge on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Russell shared niceties of working for the ILO and drew our attention to the details."
The exercise on selection of synonyms, which Russell Duffin offered to MA students during the master class, has great practical relevance and allows to expand their vocabulary significantly.
“During the master class, the expert praised the work of the students of Astrakhan State University and wished them success in their professional activities. We’ll be happy to keep cooperating with the International Labour Organization and look forward to a new master class by Russell Duffin in early 2021," says CITS Director Uliana Savelieva.
