ASU Honours Memory of Ali-Shir Nava'i

Astrakhan State University has held a literature and music concert, dedicated to the 580th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding Uzbek educator, great poet and thinker.

Representatives of national and cultural communities, members of the Ethnic and Religious Council under Governor of Astrakhan region, ethnic Uzbeks, living in the region, students, schoolchildren and admirers of Ali-Shir Nava'i got together at the ASU Boiling Point Centre in honour of the significant date. Staff members and students of ASU partner universities — the Urgench Branch of the Tashkent Medical Academy and Urgench State University — also joined the event online.

Consul-General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Rostov-on-Don Rustam Kurganbayev, who also attended the celebration, thanked Astrakhan for such a reverential attitude toward traditions of the republic and expressed his hope for further strengthening of relations, in particular with ASU.

Before the concert, the ASU rector met with representatives of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Rostov-on-Don Rustam Kurganbayev and Khuzhabakhlil Asamov. Konstantin Markelov told the distinguished guests about the number of citizens of Uzbekistan studying at our university — these are 312 people, 233 of them are first-year students. Unfortunately, the students have to study remotely for the time being because of the pandemic, and the university does its best to organize a comfortable study process for them. The rector and the representatives of the Consulate-General discussed issues of cooperation for this year.
