Rectors of Astrakhan HEIs Gather at ASU to Discuss Issues of Training Foreign Students

Yesterday, on March 4, a working meeting of the chiefs of educational institutions of higher education of Astrakhan region was held at Astrakhan State University within the framework of the visit of the delegation of Rossotrudnichestvo; the participants focused on the issues of efficient interaction with the agency.

The meeting was moderated by ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov.

He noted that during their visit, the Rossotrudnichestvo delegation not only learned about the achievements of Astrakhan State University in science, education, culture and the Caspian projects, but also discussed existing problems with their Astrakhan colleagues (including those connected with the quotas for foreign students).

As Konstantin Markelov says, 7,510 people from 79 countries are currently studying at the regional HEIs. This number allowed Astrakhan region to enter the top-5 HEIs of Russia in terms of the number of foreign students (in proportion to the total number of the university students). Nevertheless, there are a number of issues in this area to be addressed promptly.

The rector of Astrakhan State University explained that representatives of the universities constantly cooperate in addressing all problematic issues. Many of them are resolved by joint efforts (for example, sending Kazakh students back home during the pandemic).

At the event, the chiefs of the Astrakhan universities presented their achievements and talked about the problematic aspects of providing education to foreign citizens. They also shared their own experience on a number of issues of concern.

In their turn, the representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo proposed ways of further work in this area and marked out the aspects to focus on.
