Schoolchildren Demonstrate Their Knowledge of STEM Subjects at Astrakhan State University
Competition “Physics and Technology — a Path to Success” has been held within the Welcome Day programme of the ASU Faculty of Physics, Mathematics & Engineering Technologies.
Opening the event, Dean Nikolay Vybornov told the audience about the structure of the faculty, its infrastructure, facilities and laboratories that help in the implementation of engineering projects. The applicants-to-be also learned about the admission rules this year, about the majors offered by the faculty, and career opportunities for its graduates. In addition, the dean answered schoolchildren’s questions about preparatory courses, additional points for admission and employment prospects.
Then the senior schoolchildren made for specially designated classrooms to complete the competition tasks.
The competition consisted of three stages. At the first one, the participants were to identify the material of the resistor wire. At the second stage of the competition, it was necessary to wire up in a short time (no more than five minutes), and at the third stage, the children were to demonstrate their programming skills. The participants were to make the robots perform necessary manipulations with objects.
