Rector of Astrakhan State University Presents Report at Round Table “Volga-Caspian Integration Space for Development”

Representatives of India, Iran and Russia have held an online and offline discussion on important issues of logistics cooperation in the context of the North-South Transport Corridor and the development of Russia’s regions.

The roundtable participants discussed the issues of economic integration of the Volga-Caspian region, food security problems, and regional environmental and climatic risks. The main topic was the transport and logistics development of Russia’s regions, including Astrakhan region.

Konstantin Markelov presented his report “Volga-Caspian Transport Framework in System of Infrastructural Spatial Development of Russia”, noting that programmes for the accelerated development of the Caspian transport and logistics potential are connected with the project of creating a port special economic zone and a Caspian cluster.

Konstantin Markelov also noted the importance of the Russia-Iran-India trilateral union, which is strengthened by trade and economic relations and cultural ties.

The head of the university proposed not to end the discussion with today’s round table but to continue it within scientific forum “Caspian Region 2021: Sustainable Development Trajectories”, which is going to be held in May 2021 at Astrakhan State University.

A memorandum was signed upon results of the meeting.
