Konstantin Markelov Speaks at Russia-Turkmenistan Web Conference
The rector of Astrakhan State University was a speaker at international scientific online event “Ecosystem of the Caspian Sea: Current State, Preservation & Prospects for Cooperation”. The online meeting was held under support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan and the Academies of Sciences of the two countries.
In his speech, Konstantin Markelov spoke about universities as centers of integration of the Caspian region’s scientific potential. He noted that one of the main functions of a modern university is to ensure the development of the region, and a strong educational system allows for solving socio-economic problems and contributes to leveling the living standards of the population.
Konstantin Markelov spoke about the integration of the scientific and educational potential of the Caspian countries, which is aimed at the sustainable development of the region, and made proposals to strengthen Russia’s positions and achieve its strategic goals, and also noted the need to consolidate the efforts of the scientific and educational elite of the Russian regions bordering on the Caspian Sea.
In addition, the rector spoke about the activities of the Association of State Universities of Caspian Region Countries, founded in 1996 in Astrakhan region, about the tasks that need to be addressed, about the joint actions of research teams from Iran, Russia and Kazakhstan and about the active involvement of young people in research teams of Astrakhan universities.
At the end of his speech, Konstantin Markelov invited the conference participants to join — in person or remotely — the discussion at international scientific forum “Caspian Region 2021: Sustainable Development Trajectories”, which is being held on May 26-28 in Astrakhan.
