Participants of 2021 Caspian Forum at ASU Make Proposals on Addressing Pressing Issues of the Caspian Region

Participants of the second track of the meeting of the Commission for Science, Research and Technology of the Association of State Universities and Research Centers of the Caspian Sea Countries discussed scientific collaboration as the basis for sustainable development of the Caspian region and the formation of joint scientific projects and teams in priority areas of development and for addressing the main challenges in the Caspian Sea region.

Within the framework of the track, being held as an open discussion, colleagues identified priority areas for joint research. These are studies on the environmental issues of the Caspian Sea, marine technology and shipbuilding, health-saving technologies, aquaculture and aquatic biological resources, food industry and biotechnology, energy and resource saving, chemistry and oil and gas technologies, information technology, robotics and mechatronics, transport and logistics, development of tourism in the Caspian countries, integrated security of the Caspian region, digital economy and geopolitics. In addition, the track covered the issues of forming international project teams for the implementation of projects aimed at sustainable development of the Caspian region.

At the end of the event, the participants moved on to a discussion on joint research projects and teams in priority areas of the Caspian region’s development.

On behalf of the commission, Konstantin Markelov made a proposal to instruct the project office of the Caspian SEC of Astrakhan State University to summarize all proposals, adding the newly received ones, and to post the list on the commission’s website by June 15, and the universities — the initiators of the project — to organize teams and start working on them.
