ASU Artificial Intelligence Will Help Forecast Solar Energy Production
One of the areas of work of young scientists of Astrakhan State University is forecasting the electric-power production by solar panels.
According to Head of the ASU Machine Learning Unit Andrey Veriga, the task of forecasting the electric power that can be generated by solar panels arose in the framework of interaction with Ph.D. student and university staff member Sergey Bratyshev. This can be done using machine learning algorithms,which have recently proven themselves well for this kind of tasks.
Researchers of the Machine Learning Unit collect and preprocess data on weather conditions, solar radiation level, wind direction, zenith of the sun and others, and use them to train a model that predicts how much electricity can be generated by solar panels installed in Astrakhan Region. The model trained with such data will later be embedded in software for production use.
