Astrakhan State University Joins Frontiers of Russia Consortium

A respective decision was made at a meeting of the consortium within the framework of international conference “Frontiers of Russia: Geopolitics, Regional Studies, Historical Memory”, held at the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.

The conference brought together leading Russian experts in the field of international relations and geopolitics, regional development, history and economics. The main subject of discussion was the modern geopolitical processes. The meeting participants discussed the development of Russian boundary regions and the fulfillment of the country’s national interests in the national and foreign policy on their basis.

The event programme included, among other things, report «Scientific and educational centers as the core of the formation of an intellectual center for attracting talents and the development of the economy of the boundary regions of Russia», prepared by ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov, First Vice-Rector — Vice-Rector for Strategic Development Elina Polyanskaya and Head of the Caspian REC Oksana Mineva, who spoke at the conference. The authors of the report paid special attention to the positioning of Astrakhan Region as a priority geostrategic territory and the leading role of the university in representing the interests of Russia in the Caspian countries.

On August 24, 2021, a decision was made to admit Astrakhan State University as a member of the Frontiers of Russia Consortium.
