Agreement between UNESCO and ASU Is Extended until December 2025

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization recognized the activities of the UNESCO Chair “Learning Society and Human Sustainable Development” of Astrakhan State University as efficient and extended cooperation with the university until 2025.

The UNESCO Chair was founded at ASU on December 20, 2004. It is currently headed by Rector of Astrakhan State University, Konstantin Markelov.

“The Chair has created network programs, strengthened the role of Caspian States universities in addressing sustainable development issues, and facilitated high-level academic collaboration in the Russian Federation and the Central Asian sub-region. The Chair has also participated in joint international scientific projects such as Erasmus+ EU programme.

As a permanent member of the Coordinating Committee of UNESCO Chairs in the Russian Federation, the Chair „Learning Society and Human Sustainable Development“ of Astrakhan State University plays a fundamental role in disseminating information, knowledge and case study results in line with UNESCO’s strategic priorities,” says the official letter sent to Astrakhan State University.

In his response, Head of the UNESCO Chair «Learning Society and Human Sustainable Development», ASU Rector Konstantin Markelov thanked UNESCO for their confidence in the ASU Chair and expressed his intention to continue to closely cooperate with UNESCO and other partners to promote education for sustainable development through research, training, academic exchanges , documentation and publications, contributing to UNESCO’s strategic priorities and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
