ASU Orthodox Activists Take Part in Baptism Celebration
Today, a solemn service has been held at the Assumption Cathedral of the Astrakhan Kremlin, involving representatives of Astrakhan State University, among the others.
The Baptism of Our Lord, or Epiphany, is one of the most important Christian holidays. The Great Blessing of Water, a festive church service, procession, and ablution in the font take place on the night of January 19.
The Orthodox activists of Astrakhan State University, headed by the rector, took part in the celebrations. Metropolitan Nikon of Astrakhan and Kamyzyak conducted a service at the Assumption Cathedral, after which a religious procession took place to the banks of the Volga, where a font was equipped.
Konstantin Markelov was one of the first who took Epiphany plunge. It’s not the first year the ASU rector has performed this Orthodox ceremony, and he notes that the holy Epiphany water invigorates the spirit.
