Faculty of Philology and Journalism Participates in International Mother Language Day Events

The holiday has been celebrated since 2000 in order to protect linguistic and cultural diversity. Representatives of the philological community of Astrakhan Tatishchev State University told the meeting participants about the history of the holiday, the crucial role of the native language in ensuring the identity of individuals, ethnic groups, nationalities and their peaceful coexistence.

The participants touched upon the topics of learning through multilingual education in rapidly changing global conditions and crises, as well as the revival of endangered languages.

School students learned about the diversity of languages and dialects of our country, the establishment and development of Russian language and current trends in its teaching, endangered languages and the work to preserve the written heritage in the digital age.

The lecturers also conducted quizzes on the knowledge of native Russian words. Historical grammar changes of Russian language, the potential of multilingualism in education were actively discussed at the lectures from the viewpoint of livelong learning and in various contexts.
