Our Students Learn about History of Russian Missile Troops

Students of ASU’s Znamensk Branch have visited a unique site of the Central Museum of the Russian Strategic Missile Troops located in Unit 15644.

The visit to the Museum has impressed our students greatly. They have learnt a lot about the Kapustin Yar rocket launch site, that it was this very site where all the rocket tests (both land and underwater) were initiated in Russia. They were told about the history of the Kapustin Yar site and shown photos of the times when the town of Znamensk was being built. Then they learnt about the mysteries of spacecraft launches, about the first space launches of animals; they have seen a real space pod, etc.

According to Mr. Roman Kozyrkov, Director of the Znamensk Branch of Astrakhan State University, “learning about the history of your homeland is one of the key areas of cooperation between ASU and the Central Interspecific Test Yard of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Several other groups of our students are going to visit the Museum, too. I’d like to say a lot of thanks to the commandment of the Kapustin Yar site, in particular, to Major General Korolev, for such a great opportunity to listen to an interactive lecture on the history of this test site”.

As our students say, the excursion has made them feel pride for the place where they live. They highly assessed the local military hardware, and their friendly guide wished they came to the Museum once again afterwards.
