Current Issues of Astrakhan Region’s Geography & Their Solution

The Regional High School Scientific Conference “Current Issues of Astrakhan Region’s Geography & Their Solution” has been held at the Department of Geology & Geography of ASU.

As a part of the Conference, the Autumn Regional Scientific Seminar of the Astrakhan Regional High School Geographical Society and a round table for high school teachers “Geographical Education: New Technologies within Secondary & High School Systems” have been held.

Over 170 high school students, their parents, university students, and school teachers have taken part in the event. The participants have considered the main issues of the modern geographical education and shared their experience in undertaking research activities in Geography.

As for students of Astrakhan State University, they have given their reports and presentations that concerned their last-year trips: practical training at the Bogdo-Baskunchak Preserve, in Petrozavodsk, in St.-Petersburg, in Arkhyz, in Sharm el-Sheikh, and in Atlantic City. A number of documentary films about Astrakhan Region have been shown, too.

 

Dr. Marina Bezuglova, Chairperson of the Society and Associate Professor of ASU, has declared prolongation of schoolchildren’s creative and research contests; she has told about activities performed by the Society and invited everyone to the Spring Seminar to be arranged by the Society on March 27, 2015.

In early March 2014, the exhibition of photos “Earth as Perceived by Geographer” and the exhibition of drawings “Local Geography Sketches” were arranged at ASU as a result of the contests “Landscape Photo” and “Artistic Image” earlier held by the Society.

The participants and the winners of the contests have been awarded with diplomas and prizes of the Russian Geographical Society. The teachers who played an active role in arranging the Conference and the round table have been awarded with diplomas of honor.
