“Thirteenth Star” Rises at ASU

In middle November 2015, over 300 people have gathered at the first night of the play “Thirteenth Star” written by Victor Olshansky. The performance has taken place at Astrakhan State University.

The performance has been arranged by Alexey Matveev, Astrakhan Region’s well-known stage director. The two-act play has told the audience the story of a rabbit; students of ASU’s Department of Pedagogics, Social Work and Physical Training have been actors and actresses.

The touching beginning has produced a strong impression on the audience: the main character, Jack the Rabbit, shares his emotions and thoughts about his parents who are no more. He dreams to get the lucky 13th star and regrets that he is unable to introduce his beloved girlfriend Bright-Eyes to them. The whole plot manifests the main character’s aspiration for achieving his goals and gaining freedom.

“Jack is a fighting rabbit; he’s used to achieving everything on his own”, Vassily Nesterenko, who has played as Jack the Rabbit, says. “That’s a kindred spirit for me. I tried to manifest my character’s feelings, anxieties, and joy of victories to the audience the best way possible. I think our troupe has fully succeeded in that”.

This play has produced a powerful impression on the audience, who is now looking forward to watching new plays.
