Happy 70th Anniversary, Department of Foreign Languages!

On November 27, 2015, the 70th anniversary of the Department of Foreign Languages of Astrakhan State University has officially been celebrated.

Mr. Alexander Zhilkin (Governor of Astrakhan Region), Mr. Vitaliy Gutman (Minister of Education & Science of Astrakhan Region), and Mr. Vladimir Golovkov (Deputy Minister of International & Foreign Economic Relations of Astrakhan Region) have been distinguished guests at the celebration ceremony.

A number of faculty staff members of our Department have been decorated with awards:

Prof. Svetlana Kraeva (our ex-Dean who headed the Department for 25 years) – with the Medal of the Order “For Merit to Astrakhan Region”;

Prof. Olga Egorova (Director of the Institute of Language & Communicative Business Strategies), Prof. Elena Stompel (Head of our Chair of English Philology), Dr. Alexander Mukhin (Associate Professor of our Chair of Asian Languages), and Prof. Maya Ryashchina (Full Professor of our Chair of English Philology) – with the Honorary Badge of the Governor “For Professional Merit”;

Dr. Nadezhda Emelyanova (the current Dean of the Department) and Dr. Margarita Selitskaya (Associate Professor of our Chair of German Philology) – with the Honorary Diploma of the Governor of Astrakhan Region;

Dr. Tatyana Budarina (Head of our Chair of German Philology) and Dr. Elvira Mukhamedova (Associate Professor of the Chair of English Language for Specializations in Humanities) – with the Honorary Diploma of the Minister of Education & Science of Astrakhan Region.

The entire ceremony has passed in a very warmhearted atmosphere; each person of our Department felt as a member of one large family. Professors of each Chair have given concert numbers; our alumni living and working in various countries (from Canada to the United Arab Emirates) have delivered their congratulating video messages. Soloists of the faculty staff choir established in 1964 have congratulated our Department, too. As for our students, they have made splendid films about the history and the present-day activities of the Department. At the end of the holiday concert, a brilliant dance has been performed by the children’s ensemble “Preference”.

The guests have wished the Department to keep on prospering and succeeding, as well as to celebrate its 70th anniversary 70 times more.
