Scientometrics Webinar

On November 30, 2015, the Video Conference “Is Scientometrics Efficient?” has been held. Scientists from a number of top Russian research and educational institutions (Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saratov State University, Siberian Federal University, Astrakhan State University, etc.) have taken part in it.

Our University has been represented by Prof. Anna Romanova (Director of ASU’s Institute of Humanities), Prof. Lyudmila Baeva (Dean of ASU’s Department of Social Communications), Prof. Alexander Glazkov (Acting Head of our Chair of Philosophy), and Dr. Leonid Podvoyskiy (an Associate Professor of the same Chair).

As for Prof. Baeva’s report, it has concerned the specifics of Scientometrics in the field of Humanities. She has emphasized the necessity to consider with both the qualitative and the quantitative analysis of productivity of research activities, to apply a system of staff position differentiation at a modern university in order to provide the right conditions for the development of scientific researches. As for Prof. Romanova, she has pointed out that Scientometrics makes it possible for researchers to determine their position within the world and the national science; it makes it easier to search for various narrow fields of science; but it also creates a number of difficulties, unless it has valid qualitative rates.

The participants of the Webinar have exchanged their ideas and discussed issues and prospects of Scientometrics to estimate and assess humanitarian (first of all, philosophical) researches.
