Our Students Demonstrate Proficiency in English Language Skills

The 3rd National Competition in Business Foreign Languages and Translation has been held at Saint-Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts; students of Astrakhan State University have taken part in it.

This has been the 2nd stage of the Competition; the initial, regional stage implied the participants’ successful completion of listening comprehension and speaking tasks that were made up according to the Cambridge English: Business Certificates (BEC) of B2 and C1 levels. As for the 2nd stage in Saint Petersburg, its participants had to translate texts (1, 000 characters each) in economical themes from English into Russian.

Our University has been represented by students of the Department of Business & Economy (Shamil Amaev, Anna Soboleva) and the Department of World Economy & Management (Yaroslav Arakelyants, Alisher Toshpulotov, Ekaterina Vazhova, Maria Solovkina, Ekaterina Tutarinova, and Lyudmila Shchekotova). As the young people say, the tasks were quite complicated for them, but not that new. All of them have completed their tasks successfully and joined the top 10 participants at both language levels. Besides testing their language skills, they have made new friends. In particular, reps of Belarus State Economic University (Minsk, Belarus) have been surprised with our students’ proficiency in English and invited them to take part in an international scientific conference to be held in Minsk.
