Astrakhan Students Compete in Financial Literacy

The Winter Contest in Financial Literacy for students of Astrakhan Region has passed at Astrakhan State University.

Students of a number of Astrakhan Region’s educational institutions  – Astrakhan State University, Astrakhan State Technical University, Astrakhan State Medical University, the Astrakhan State Institute of Engineering and Construction, etc. – have taken part in this event.

As a result of the online selection stage, 50 best students have been chosen to take part in the semi-final. This stage included two parts: testing in various aspects of finances (crediting, investments, risk assessment, struggle with financial fraud, protection of rights of people who consume financial services, insurance, savings, entrepreneurship) and writing an essay in a financial theme. In the end, seven finalists have been selected.

The Final of the Winter Contest in Financial Literacy has passed on December 13, 2015 at Astrakhan State University. The seven participants have taken part in a table game in Economics, whose results have determined the winners: the 1st place – Nikita Kapustin (the Astrakhan State Institute of Engineering and Construction), the 2nd place – Alisher Toshpulotov (Astrakhan State University, the Department of World Economy & Management), the 3rd place – Ekaterina Boronikhina (Astrakhan State University, the Department of World Economy & Management). They got “Olympic” medals, diplomas of honor, and valuable presents.

The event aimed to enhance financial literacy of young people living in Astrakhan Region. According to Mr. Alexander Koshkarov, Director of ASU’s Center of Financial Literacy, the participants demonstrate profound interest towards the issues that they analyzed; as the essay contest has shown, they have nonstandard views on tackling essential financial issues. As for Mr. Danil Gubarevskiy, Chief of the Directorate of Investments & Securities of the VKA Bank (one of Astrakhan Region’s key banks) and the chairperson of the jury, events aiming to enhance the population’s financial literacy are of great importance and meet public needs (especially young people’s needs) for new financial knowledge.

Let us congratulate our winners and wish them to gain further success and achieve more victories!
